“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”
1 John 3:2
I think we’re all looking forward to heaven. We have our different reasons — some of us want to see precious loved ones who aren’t earthside anymore, some of us are eager for the pain and suffering of this world to end, and some of us just want to escape the stresses of this life.
I know we’re all looking forward to seeing Jesus though, and that’s exactly what John talks about in this verse. When Jesus is revealed, when Jesus comes back, we will be conformed to His image. We’ll have our resurrected bodies and we will see God — really see God.
But what do we do in the meantime? The amazing thing about our lives as Christians is that, if we are living in obedience to Christ, then we are becoming more like Him every day.
And that looks like loving others, especially when it’s hard. It looks like being generous with all of ourselves — with our time, our money, and everything else. It looks like being patient, even when it’s the very last straw. It looks like pursuing Christlikeness every single day, in every single circumstance, even when it’s hard.
I can’t wait until Jesus comes back, and we are resurrected and we can really see God. And in the meantime, I hope that I’m becoming more like Him and seeing God show up in my life day by day. And I hope you are too.
PRAYER: God, thank you for your promise that Christ will come again, and that we will truly see You and be resurrected in new bodies. Help me to become more like You while I wait for Your return. Help me to see You and all the ways You’re working in my life in the meantime. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
